About the Presentation

From Shades of Gray Situations to Black and White Solutions

Engineers provide their greatest contribution to society by being ethical when solving problems and making decisions in the application of technology. However, ethical situations often are not black or white issues. Typically, various solutions appear to be shades of gray. In making ethical decisions, engineers need to be sensitive to how this will impact others. Although ethical behavior is based on personal values, there are guidelines to help professional engineers make ethical decisions. This presentation addresses ethics from a practical viewpoint and will include an audience group exercise! It is designed to use team building skills and other engineering principles to change an ethical dilemma that appears to be shades of gray to a black and white solution based on proven ethical standards for our profession.
