About the Presentation

Project Management challenges on the OSU Covelli Arena Project, the Postle Hall Expansion Project and the Inpatient Hospital Project. 

Speaker

Mark Banta, Senior Construction Manager, OSU Department of Facilities, Design, and Construction

Mr. Banta  is a 1992 graduate of the Construction Science and Management Program in the College of Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University.  He has worked in the construction industry as a Project Engineer and Project Manager for the past 30 years.  Mr. Banta has worked as a Project Manager for a large national specialty contractor (Baker Concrete Construction), two large regional general contractors (Smoot Construction and The Albert M. Higley Company) and a large institutional owner (The Ohio State University). Mr. Banta has been a Senior Construction Manager with OSU’s Department of Facilities, Design and Construction for the past seventeen (17) years, managing projects for the Medical Center Facilities Team, the Athletics Facilities Team and the Masterplan Expansion and “Time and Change” Teams.  Some of the larger and more complex  Projects Mr. Banta has helped manage include The James Cancer Center and Solove Research Institute’s 21-story, 900,000 SF Critical Cancer Care Hospital Project, The OSU College of Dentistry’s Postle Hall Expansion Project, the Renovation Projects of the Brain and Spine Hospital, the Covelli Arena Project, the renovation Projects at Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research, the renovation of the WMC’s University Hospital Loading Dock, renovation of WMC’s University Hospital Central Sterile Facility, replacement of the Air Handlers on top of University Hospital’s 13-story Doan Hall, multiple Projects at University Hospital East and University Hospital’s main campus.  Mr. Banta is currently the Senior Construction Manager on the WMC Inpatient Hospital Project, which is a 28 story, 1.9 million SF Critical Care Hospital at 10^th and Cannon on the main WMC Campus.  Mr. Banta has also taught the Construction Project Management Class (CSM 4641) in the Construction Systems Management Degree Program for the past 10 years.
